Yesterday at a luncheon at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., the American Film Institute (AFI) honored the most outstanding achievements in the art of the moving image for 2018 with 10 films and 10 television programs deemed culturally and artistically significant.
The AFI AWARDS honorees were selected based on works that “advance the art of the moving image, enhance the rich cultural heritage of America’s art form, inspire audiences and artists alike and make a mark on American society.”
In addition to the 20 honorees, AFI also recognized ROMA with an AFI Special Award, designated for a work of excellence outside the Institute’s criteria for American film.

The American Film Institute (AFI) was founded by a 1965 presidential mandate announced in the Rose Garden of the White House by Lyndon B. Johnson to establish a national arts organization to preserve the legacy of American Film heritage, educate the next generation of filmmakers, and honor the artists and their work.
Long-time sponsor and co-collaborator Audi has supported AFI and its programs, including this year’s AFI Awards 2018 luncheon, for the past 15 years. Thank you, Audi!
